Respite Care
If you have a current Aged Care Assessment recommending low or high care residential respite care, you may have up to 63 days of respite care in each financial year, with allowable extensions of 21 days at a time if necessary.
When receiving residential respite care, you will be asked to pay a basic daily care fee. The fee for residential respite care is based upon the current pension rate and is affordable.
Access to residential respite care
You will need an ACAT assessment for respite in an aged care home. The availability of services varies from region to region, and the assessment will determine your needs in line with what help is available in your area.
If you need emergency respite care, phone your local Commonwealth Respite and Carelink Centre on 1800 052 222 during business hours or 1800 059 059 outside business hours.
At ECH, we offer Interim Respite care only. This means we will not be able to take scheduled, planned respite care needs and that we will be able to assist carers who are in need of rest on and off through the year, when a bed is available for a short period of time. For any further information please do not hesitate to contact us.
